  • Siesta culture: many shops and eateries close from 12:00 PM–2:00 PM

  • Restaurants: 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
  • Markets and shops: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM
  • Nightlife: mainly inside resorts

Customs and Tips

  • Smile and greet with “Maayong Buntag” (Good morning) or “Maayong Gabi-i” (Good evening)
  • Dress modestly when outside the beach areas
  • Bargaining in markets is acceptable but done respectfully
  • Always bring cash! ATMs are rare, and card payments aren’t always available.
